A little preparation can make a first visit feel more comfortable. Focus on what the caregiver needs to understand about the household and the agreed daily support.
Share the household routine
Write down preferred meal times, getting-ready routines, interests, and privacy preferences. Identify which tasks the client wants to continue doing independently.
Discuss access and the workspace
Explain how the caregiver should arrive and whom to contact about entry. Discuss pets, household rules, and where supplies for agreed tasks will be kept. Keep everyday walkways clear and well lit.
Confirm the plan and contacts
Review the approved tasks, schedule, and communication process with Premier. Discuss any equipment or assistance needs during the assessment rather than asking a caregiver to attempt an unreviewed task.
A Starting Checklist
- Prepare routine and preference notes.
- Confirm entry instructions and a contact person.
- Identify supplies for approved tasks.
- Review the care plan and how to report concerns.
