Personal care is non-medical assistance with everyday activities. The amount and type of help depend on the person’s needs, preferences, and the tasks agreed in the care plan.
Common personal routines
Personal care can involve help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and moving through daily routines. Some people need hands-on help, while others need only limited assistance with particular tasks.
A plan specific to the person
Tell Premier which routines are difficult, how help is currently provided, and what the client wants to do independently. Assistance with transfers or equipment must be reviewed before services are agreed.
Know the boundaries
Premier’s scope is non-medical personal care. Skilled nursing and therapy are outside that scope. Our medication-reminder service provides prompts for a client who takes their own medications; it is not medication administration.
A Starting Checklist
- Identify the tasks where help is needed.
- Share preferences and privacy needs.
- Discuss any equipment during the assessment.
- Confirm which tasks are included before care begins.
